Describe where the water would come from.
A sudden pipe problem, water backing up through a drain, and water flowing over the ground are not the same scenario. Standard homeowners coverage generally excludes flooding, and sewer or sump backup can require a specific endorsement. Coverage depends on the policy and the facts of a loss.
Use a three-scenario conversation.
Ask Todd to walk through examples rather than accepting a broad answer that you “have water coverage.” Write down the relevant limit, deductible, and exclusions for each scenario so you can compare them.
- What if a pipe suddenly breaks inside the home?
- What if a sump pump fails or a sewer backs up?
- What if surface water enters the building?
A map does not replace the policy.
A location near Lake Winnebago, the Rock River, or another waterway may prompt a useful discussion, but this website does not assign a flood zone or determine your property’s risk. Ask about the coverage appropriate to your situation and whether a separate flood policy is available through an appropriate provider. Luedtke has not confirmed a flood program on this site.
If damage has already happened.
Contact your insurer or agent promptly using their claim process. Use the quote form for future coverage inquiries, not to report an urgent loss or assume a new policy will cover existing damage. Follow safety instructions and your insurer’s directions about documentation and repairs.
Questions before you start.
Is sump backup the same thing as flood insurance?
No. Ask about each separately and confirm the applicable wording. An endorsement for one source of damage should not be treated as protection against every source.
Useful resources.
Independent resources provide additional context; they do not imply a government endorsement of Luedtke Insurance.
