Start with ownership and daily use.
List the vehicles and explain whether they are owned by a person or the business, leased, rented, or used by employees. Describe the work performed with each. Commercial auto questions are not settled by a logo on the door or the fact that a vehicle is a pickup.
A useful first inventory.
You can prepare the full details privately before contacting the agency. The initial website message should only summarize the work and provide a safe way to reach you.
- Year, make, model, and general vehicle type.
- Owner or lessee and normal storage location.
- Who may drive and the type of work trips involved.
- Goods, tools, equipment, passengers, or trailers involved.
- Any rental or employee-owned vehicles used for the business.
Keep vehicle damage and carried property questions separate.
Ask which coverage addresses the vehicle, which addresses covered liability, and how any tools or goods carried are handled. Do not assume one policy answers all three. Contract requirements and unusual operations should be raised early so Todd can explain whether further review is needed.
Use this checklist when the operation changes.
A new employee driver, delivery service, longer travel radius, or rented truck is a reason to contact your agent. Ask about available arrangements before relying on protection for the new use. This page is a review checklist, not confirmation that a specific commercial vehicle program or industry class is available.
Questions before you start.
What if an employee uses a personal car for work?
Explain the arrangement to Todd, including who owns the vehicle and the work performed. Ask about the business’s exposure and the driver’s policy separately; do not assume either automatically fills every gap.
Useful resources.
Independent resources provide additional context; they do not imply a government endorsement of Luedtke Insurance.
General information only. Coverage, eligibility, limits, exclusions, and availability depend on the insurer and actual policy. This page does not bind, change, or cancel insurance. Confirm your specific needs with Todd and your insurer.
