A machinery list is only the start.

Owned, leased, borrowed, and shared machines can create different questions. Use this checklist to prepare a farm equipment discussion with Todd.

Describe the arrangement for each machine.

Start with the equipment you rely on and note who owns it, where it is stored, and how it is used. Add leased or borrowed machines rather than focusing only on assets on your balance sheet. Tell Todd if equipment works at another location or is used for custom work.

Keep a private machinery record.

A working list can make the follow-up conversation more efficient. Do not paste serial numbers, finance documents, or detailed asset schedules into the initial website request.

  • Machine type, make, model, and identifying records kept privately.
  • Ownership, leasing, borrowing, or sharing arrangement.
  • Normal storage and locations where the equipment operates.
  • Attachments, recent purchases, and planned replacements.
  • Questions about valuation, deductibles, and transportation.

Ask which causes of loss are actually addressed.

Accidental damage, theft, wear, and mechanical breakdown should not be assumed to receive the same treatment. Have Todd explain the relevant policy terms and any separate coverage discussion needed. A farm policy label or a picture of a combine on this website does not confirm equipment coverage.

Contact the agent before depending on a new arrangement.

If you are buying, borrowing, leasing, or moving a machine, ask what information is required and when any change would take effect. The initial request is not an instruction that binds or changes insurance. Keep the agent’s confirmation with your farm records.

Questions before you start.

Is borrowed equipment insured like owned equipment?

The arrangement needs a policy-specific review. Tell Todd who owns the machine, how it will be used, and any agreement involved before assuming coverage applies.

Useful resources.

Independent resources provide additional context; they do not imply a government endorsement of Luedtke Insurance.

General information only. Coverage, eligibility, limits, exclusions, and availability depend on the insurer and actual policy. This page does not bind, change, or cancel insurance. Confirm your specific needs with Todd and your insurer.
